Leprechaun Sensory Search

Posted on March 10, 2020March 10, 2020 by amanda

We are a little behind on our daily activities since we are on the road, but we are definitely still having lots of holiday themed fun! I planned what we would do while we were traveling, so I packed all our supplies and threw them in a plastic bin. That is the beauty of the activities I usually choose for us, they are typically simple and easy to throw together!

Today’s project was a fun sensory activity, that Remi has been asking to do for weeks!! I bought the shaving cream for it last month, and since he saw it on the counter, he’s been asking to do the “whipped cream”. It was finally the day!!

I came across this idea from one of my new favorite blogs, Little Bins for Little Hands. I knew Remi would love getting his hands messy and searching for gold!

Here is all you need:

  • Shaving Cream
  • Plastic Coins
  • Glitter
  • Container (I used a disposable foil pan, but you could use a glass dish or even plastic tub)

To set up our leprechaun search, I simply laid out coins at the bottom of the pan and layered shaving cream and coins to the top of the dish and sprinkled glitter on top.

Remi couldn’t wait to dig into the shaving cream! He was so excited to find the coins! It did get messy really quick! I grabbed a bowl for the coins and a bowl for warm water to clean our hands as we played.

The sensory play is so important for little ones! Research shows that activities like these can increase a child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks and supports cognitive growth, language development, gross motor skills, social interaction and problem solving skills. Read more about that here!

We had so much fun hunting for gold, but this activity can be replicated for any holiday, or even for every day play if you include different items to search for. Let me know below how your little loved this, or what adjustments you made!
