Shamrock Scavenger Hunt

Posted on March 2, 2020March 4, 2020 by amanda

With the success of the Gold Coin Scavenger hunt, I knew Remington would have fun with this Shamrock Number Line Scavenger Hunt I found from No Time for Flashcards! It is similar to the counting coins activity, however this one calls for your kiddo to find the shamrocks in numerical order and put them on a number line. I find that activities like this are a great opportunity to add number recognition and counting into physical activity, which Remington always enjoys, and it keeps his attention so much longer than just sitting at the table working on numbers!

Materials needed include:

  • Shamrock Numbers (these can be any shape, even post it notes, which you will number 1-20)
  • Masking Tape
  • Marker
Make sure to space the dots out enough for the shamrocks, and that the tape is high enough for little brothers or sisters!

First, you will hide all of your shamrocks. Then set up your masking tape number line, with a dot for each shamrock. Keep in mind, you can make adjustments to this activity as you see fit for your kiddo. This can be as simple as only numbering up to 5 or 10. You can make it more challenging by counting by 5’s or 10’s. You could even mix it up and use the alphabet instead of numbers!

Have your kiddo find each shamrock, and again, remind them that they are looking for each shamrock in numerical order! Give your child the freedom to work through this process how best works for them, whether that be finding a shamrock and adding it right to the number line, or finding them all and then attaching them to the number line, or any combination that they decide to do!

I hope that this was an activity that both you and your little enjoyed! Let me know how it went below!
